In 2023, overseas purchases of vacuum pumps decreased by -23.3% to 284K units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 552K units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vacuum pump imports shrank remarkably to $44M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, imports saw a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked at $60M in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2023, Japan (158K units) constituted the largest supplier of vacuum pump to Thailand, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, vacuum pump imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (62K units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (26K units), with a 9% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Japan stood at -8.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-2.7% per year) and Germany (-6.1% per year).

In value terms, Japan ($20M) constituted the largest supplier of vacuum pumps to Thailand, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($7.3M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.5% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value from Japan stood at -3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+7.5% per year) and Germany (-7.1% per year).

In 2023, the vacuum pump price stood at $156 per unit (CIF, Thailand), rising by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when the average import price increased by 47%. The import price peaked in 2023 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($164 per unit), while the price for France ($36 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
